The story

Every hero needs a team

Midnight Machine: page 4
Page 4

A hero can stumble. A hero can fall. A hero can ask for some help after all.

From page 30

At dusk, an old box arrives from someone who loves them. Inside is a dented silver band with one star, and a note: “This was mine. Be brave where you are.” When Leo puts it on, the star flashes blue, the streetlights go out, and a giant machine with a tear in its eye looks down at the city.

With Skyflare, a hero wrapped in ribbons of light, and Bolt, a little drone with a bent wing, Leo saves a bus on the skybridge, finds out why Keeper is so frightened, and asks the whole city to share its light. No villain to beat, no fighting: a story about listening, teamwork, and being brave enough to ask for help. Written in read-aloud rhyme for ages 3 to 8.

  1. Stop 1 · Asking for help The skybridge A bus slides toward a crack. Leo holds it with two ribbons of light, then calls out: “Skyflare, help!”
  2. Stop 2 · Kindness A bent silver wing A tiny drone lies hurt under a bench. Leo kneels down and fixes its wing. Hello, Bolt!
  3. Stop 3 · Empathy The shield Keeper traps them in, and pushing only makes it stronger. So Leo stops, and listens.
  4. Stop 4 · Teamwork Keeper’s heart The old machine is scared and tired. Leo asks the whole city to share its light.

And back home in bed: the same dented band, now with two silver stars, and a letter from you.

My son went quiet, then pointed at every page: that’s ME! Now he draws a star on his wrist every time we read it.

Good to know

Questions, answered

Do I see the book before I pay?

Yes. Your free preview shows the cover and the first 4 pages. The rest of the book is painted after you order, and you can ask for changes for 24 hours.

Who is this book for?

One child, ages 3 to 8, painted into the story from one clear photo. It’s written as a gift: the person who gives it is part of the story, as the one who wore the band long ago.

How many previews can I make?

Up to 5 a day. Changing their name, who it’s from or the dedication paints a new preview, so check the spelling before you start.

What kind of photo works best?

A clear, front-facing photo of your child in good light, with nothing covering their face. A phone photo is perfect. If a photo doesn’t work, we’ll ask you for another before anything is printed.

What goes in the “From” box?

The way your little one says your name: Nana, Grandpa, Mom & Dad, Aunt Jo, or a pair like Nana & Pop. It signs the note in the box on page 1 and the letter on page 29.

Will it arrive before Christmas?

Order by Dec 14 with standard shipping, or by Dec 18 with express, for delivery by Christmas Eve in the continental US.

Can I change something after I order?

Yes, for 24 hours after your order: their name, the photo, who it’s from or the dedication. After that, your book goes to print.

What happens to my photos?

They’re used only to paint your book. We delete them within 30 days of delivery and never sell or share them.
